Today at Buckingham Palace, The Queen received Miss Sarah Clarke on her appointment as Lady Usher of the Black Rod. Miss Clarke is the first woman to hold this role, which dates back to 1350. Black Rod carries out ceremonial duties for Parliament and has additional duties in the House of Lords. Black Rod is sent from the Lords Chamber to the Commons Chamber to summon MPs to hear The Queen's Speech. 📸PA
