スウェーデン王カール16世グスタフ陛下のいとこ（母親がザクセン＝コーブルク＝ゴータ家出身）。
薨去に伴い、長男のフーベルトゥス殿下（Hubertus Prinz von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha）が当主であるザクセン＝コーブルク＝ゴータ公となります。
また、その長男のフィリップ殿下（Philipp）が新たに公世子となります。
