2020年7月17日、キャプテン・トム（Captain Tom）こと、“サー”・トーマス・モア大尉（Captain Sir Thomas Moore）が、英国女王エリザベス2世陛下（Elizabeth II ： Her Majesty The Queen）より騎士（ナイト ： Knight）に叙任されました。
キャプテン・トムは第二次世界大戦に従軍した退役軍人で、今年、新型コロナウイルス感染症対策における医療従事者のための募金活動で有名となり、士官学校（？）から上級の軍人の名誉階級を授与されたり、マイケル・ボールとデュエットしたユール・ネヴァー・ウォーク・アローン（You’ll Never Walk Alone）が全英シングルチャート1位を獲得したり、といわゆる一躍時の人になった状態になっています。
また、英国王室のベアトリス王女殿下（ヨーク公爵家）とエドアルド・マペッリ・モッツィ氏が騎士叙任同日に結婚式を挙式していますが、殿下らはキャプテン・トムの報道を優先させたいとして式の写真などの報道関係者への配布を翌日以降にする意向を示したそうです（いまいち守られていないような気もしますが）。

エドワード王子殿下は、父であるエディンバラ公爵フィリップ王子殿下（His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh）の薨去の後に「エディンバラ公爵」に叙されることが決まっています（と書くと正確な説明ではないのですが、たぶん叙されます）。
エディンバラはスコットランドにあり、また「ウェセックス伯爵」のウェセックスはイングランド。
また、子息のジェームズが儀礼称号として使用している「セヴァーン子爵」のセヴァーンはウェールズにあります。
このように三地域の地名（北アイルランドがないですが）を冠した称号をバランスよく（？）保有することになる予定でしたが、今回、先にスコットランドで使用するための称号が叙爵されました。
今後は、スコットランド担当王族としての役割が強く求められていくのかもしれません。
